The Best Chicken Rice (Khao Man Gai) In Bangkok
Alright folks, it’s time for hungriness! As we all know every country has it own famous dish (Check out famous Thai foods here), but there are continental dishes. One of Asian signature food is chicken rice. What make Thai flavor-chicken rice different from chicken rice from Asian countries? It’s a RICHNESS of flavor as we all have experienced in Thai food.
But where does chicken rice come from? Many people say it’s from China. And it’s because the early Chinese immigrants throughout Southeast Asia brought this dish with them, time goes by, the dish develops its own unique flavor in different regions. As our experience, we’ve tried chicken rice in Malaysia, Singapore, and of course Thailand. They are quite different, but they all taste so good! Let’s us know your chicken rice experience.
Where is the best chicken rice place in Bangkok (possibly in Thailand)?
This tasty, convenient and inexpensive dish is everywhere in Thailand, but the place we about to recommend is the best place for chicken rice in Bangkok (at least we believe so). “Go Ang” aka “Khao Man Gai Pratunam” (Pratunam chicken rice) is located nearby Pratunam intersection for more than 40 years. That’s right, almost half century!
To get to Go Ang is very easy, just follow Phetchaburi Rd until you reach Soi Phechaburi 30 (about 300 meters), it’s right there. (soon you can take a look at our video)
There are two options for chicken rice. You can order a dish of chicken+rice for 40 Baht or boiled chicken (small dish = 60 baht, large dish =120 baht) and order rice separately. Go Ang opens 5.30 am-3 pm and 5pm-3am, so try to avoid those four and a half hour they closes.
Couple things to keep in mind before you go taste the tender chicken
1. This Place is Thai local so it doesn’t have air condition and it might get too warm inside the place, so pick the tables outside if you’re not used to Thai local restaurants.
2. No English language on the menu, but don’t scare to order, just say “Khao Man Gai” and number of dish, you are good to go.
3. No English signboard at all, but it’s easy to find since it’s located right by the street sign and pretty much everyone who works there wears pink
Now it’s your turn! Let us know how you like it 🙂
